Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
SpineOne provides Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE), determining an individual's ability to dependably perform work tasks and daily activities. The EPIC® lift capacity test and the Multidimensional Task Ability Profile (MTAP) are key FCE components.

Our protocols are based on the California Functional Capacity Protocols (Cal-FCP). This standardized FCE is based on the practice hierarchy and strong evidence-based research. Matheson is a pioneer in the field of industrial rehabilitation with more than 30 years of study. The Matheson approach supports durable and equitable worker's compensation, long-term disability and personal injury case resolution through FCE’s, providing objective answers to specific case resolution questions.
We perform assessments using trained Matheson Work Capacity Evaluators under one-on-one, distraction-based clinical conditions. Assessments include extensive tests, recognized for their reliability and validity, and designed to resolve cases, determine disability or work loss due to impairment, and/or plan rehabilitation programming. Our FCE can complement AMA Impairment Ratings such as the recent WCAB – En Banc Almaraz-Guzman decision.
Our Matheson-trained evaluator views each case individually, planning evaluation accordingly to and in line with the Practice Hierarchy: safety, rehabilitation, validity, practicality and utility. The evaluator strives toward case resolution, answering the referral’s questions and ensuring results are reliable through full physical effort testing throughout the evaluation.
